Millers Triumph

Caretaker Manager, Mark Robins, couldn`t have wished for a better start as Rotherham United soared to a 4-1 victory over Yorkshire rivals Bradford City.

Robins, taking charge for the first time today, saw striker Delroy Facey score after just 4 minutes from a cross from Ian Henderson to put the home team 1-0 up. Bradford were after a quick reply and a few minutes later saw Steven Schumacher`s strike go just over the bar. City started to come into the game and only a good save from Millers keeper, Gary Montgomery, from Marc Bridge-Wilkinson stopped them finding the equaliser and Pablo Mills cleared off the line from a corner not long afterwards. But the Millers held on and went off at half-time to a round of applause from the home crowd.

Bradford`s caretaker Manager, David Wetherall must have given his team a dressing down in the changing rooms at half-time because they came out much the stronger side with Montgomery saving from on-loan striker Billy Paynter before Omar Daley`s tremendous shot over the Millers keeper into the top corner to level the scores. Bradford started to go forward but it was the Millers who re-took the lead when Martin Woods free-kick was fumbled by Donovan Ricketts into his own net, in front of the delighted Millers faithful fans in the Tivoli. A few minutes later Facey scored his second and the Millers third of the game when his 18-yard drive beat Ricketts and went in off the upright. Paynter and Eddie Johnson both had shots cleared off the goal line for the visitors before Woods put the result beyond doubt with an absolute screamer of a goal that went round Ricketts just before the end of the game.

Let`s make no bones about it, it still looks grim for The Millers at the bottom of League One but this was a welcome win, the first since the beginning of December, and a welcome three points for Mark Robins who described the result as 'unbelievable`.

Have to say that I had a dilema this week finding a man of the match - after weeks of having to find one, this week I could have had any one of five! Facey for his goals, Monty did well, I thought Brogan had a good game and Newsham was great when he came on. So picked Woods for his effort and last goal (and cos the boss said so!!!!)

I was impressed by Newsham as well. Can he be the replacement for Hoskins?
