Millers Held At Home

A goal, two minutes from time by Stephen Brogan, meant that the Millers managed a draw in their first home pre season game of the summer.

Championship team Barnsley brought a strong side to Millmoor but despite some early pressure by the visitors, it was the home team that nearly went in front when Brogan's corner went agonisingly wide of the outstretched leg of captain Graham Coughlan. Minutes later Derek Holmes crossed to Peter Holmes who headed over the bar and a minute later Holmes saw his free kick go just wide of the post. At the other end Andy Warrington managed to claw the ball away after a shot by Rohan Ricketts and Miguel Mostto, with only the 'keeper to beat, shot wide before he had a cheeky shot from fifty yards out when he saw Warrington off his line but the veteran 'keeper managed to get back to save. Both Ryan Taylor and Andy Todd should have put the Millers, who played in their away kit today, in the lead before Barnsley had the ball in the back of the net when Kayode Odejayi beat Warrington from close range but it was ruled off side.

After the break it was the home team who threatened again with Chris O'Grady hitting the ball over and Andy Todd seeing his shot hitting a defender before rolling to Letheren in goal. Coughlan met a Peter Holmes cross but saw his header go into the side netting and minutes later Mark Hudson should have scored but volleyed over from ten yards out. Barnsley's goal came on the seventy-fifth minute when a Ricketts corner found Nyatanga's head giving sub 'keeper, Steve Cann, no chance as it hit the back of the net. The Millers came back and got their just reward on the eighty-eighth minute when Brogan hammered the ball into the top corner for the equaliser. A minute into time added on Barnsley thought they had won the game when Michael Coulson turned and hit the ball only to see it smash against the woodwork and then cleared away by a Rotherham defender.

One-one was maybe a fair result, and it was a good workout for the Millers team today.

Star Player

Peter Holmes - although Andy Todd, Dale Tonge and Stephen Brogan all had good games today
