Stalemate at Millmoor

A good crowd at Millmoor tonight, saw a spirited performance by the Millers against opponents, Sheffield United.

Bryan Robson brought a squad of seventeen on the short journey to neighbouring Rotherham, as he and former team mate, Mark Robins, came head-to-head as managers for the first time.

The first half saw Paddy Kenny the busier of the two goalkeepers and in the first two minutes Peter Holmes fired a shot straight at him and Andy Todd crossed for Derek Holmes who headed just over. Then Stephen Brogan had a curling free-kick that was punched to safety by Kenny. The visitors had to wait until the half hour mark before they had a shot, when Danny Webber flicked the ball towards goal but it went way off target. Jonathan Stead came more into the game towards the end of the half but Andy Warrington in the Rotherham goal was rarely troubled.

The second half was more evenly matched with Chris Armstrong having a shot saved off the line by Marc Joseph and twenty minutes from the end, Peter Holmes put in a near perfect corner which was headed just over the bar. Both Keith Gillespie and Derek Greary were spoken to by referee Howard Webb, as the tackles became unnecessarily vicious and tempers frayed. Stephen Brogan had a free-kick saved by Kenny and substitute, Chris O`Grady, made the visiting 'keeper pull off a brilliant save when he shot from a tight angle.

All in all it was a good whole round performance from the Millers against stiff opposition, one that, I`m sure, Mark Robins and the fans can take a lot of hope from for next season

Tough one again but MARC JOSEPH just edged it from Peter Holmes

He's lost over a stone in the last 12 months apparently! Maybe he's looking to do a bit of modeling work? ;-)
