Millers win 'Pool

Two goals in the first half of the final pre-season friendly before the Football season kicks-off, was enough to see Rotherham win League One side Hartlepool this afternoon at Millmoor.

With less than ten minutes gone, Andy Todd was fouled in the penalty area by former owl, Richie Humphries and Chris O'Grady stepped up and put the ball in the net giving Aaran Lee Barratt no chance of saving. Ten minutes later the visitors nearly equalised but Andy Warrington blocked a shot from Joel Porter and Ian Sharps cleared the ball away. On the thirty-seventh minute the Millers lead was increased when a Peter Holmes free-kick was headed in by striker Derek Holmes.

The second half was only minutes old and the Millers should have finished off the visitors when O'Grady was set up by Peter Holmes to see his shot turned away by Barratt for a corner and on the sixty-third minute a Peter Holmes free kick found O'Grady's head but was well saved by the 'keeper. A few minutes later, substitue Gary Liddle scored for 'pool when the home teams defence failed to clear the ball.

The majority of the small crowd at Millmoor went home happy today, after seeing, what we all think, will be the starting line up against Hereford next Saturday, play well.

Star Player

Again a difficult decision but I think Chris O'Grady just gets the vote ahead of Graham Coughlan, Peter Holmes and Dale Tonge
