A goal in each half saw the Millers go down to their first league defeat of the season against Darlington at Millmoor today.
Darlington, also unbeaten, seem to brush aside the home side as they pushed forward from the onset taking just ten minutes to score the first goal. Julian Joachim got passed Paul Hurst and swung the ball into the penalty area where Pawel Abbot was on hand to put it past a static Andy Warrington in the Millers goal. Derek Holmes had the best chance for Rotherham when he got on the end of an Andy Todd cross but his powerful header went over the bar and he perhaps should have done better at the end of the half when his volley was easily kept out by David Stockdale.
The Millers came out for the second half looking determined and continued to press forward with crosses into the penalty area although, to be truthful, none really bothered Stockdale in goal. Stephen Brogan might have done better had he decided to have a shot instead of passing to Todd and Todd himself had a shot that just went over the crossbar. Ryan Taylor came on for Derek Holmes and almost straight away shot at goal but saw the ball go just over. A Paul Hurst throw in saw Joachim get the ball send in a curling cross which was met by Gregg Blundell who headed home from just six yards out. The Millers had no answer to this second goal and the game, the only other real chance being in injury time when a short taken corner found Marc Joseph twenty yards out but his shot was easily saved by Stockdale.
As for Mr Drysdale words fail me. (Well they don`t but I would get into bother if I actually put them). There was fifteen people wearing black shorts today - thirteen on the pitch and two running the line. One was our goalie, Andy Warrington. I will leave you to make up your own minds on who the other twelve were.
