A first Millers league goal for Ryan Taylor in the first half and a goal for Derek Holmes just back from injury in the second half saw the Millers go third tonight in the table.
At a blustery windswept Millmoor it took the home team fifteen or so minutes to get into their stride and at one point it looked like Shrewsbury would frustrate the Millers as they fought to stop them getting into their half of the pitch. On the twentieth minute the Millers got a free kick just outside the box, which was floated over by Mark Hudson. He found Pablo Mills who headed the ball down for Chris O`Grady but the striker just failed to connect and the ball went just wide of the post. And ten minutes later O`Grady again should have opened the scoring when a mistake by Towns defence let O`Grady in and his shot beat Glyn Garner in the Shrews net but thumped against the foot of the far post and rebounded to safety. Stephen Brogan blazed over just after that and O`Grady, Taylor and Derek Holmes could and perhaps should have had the ball in the net before the pressure paid off when a Marc Joseph cross to the back post was well thumped out by Garner but the ball fell to Pablo Mills whose looping header found Ryan Taylor who got the slightest touch to steer the ball into the net and past Garner. But Town nearly levelled just on half time when a fierce shot from Michael Symes was saved on the line by Ian Sharps went across the front of the goal, fell to David Hunt only for Sharps to scramble the ball out of harms way.
The second half started with a Derek Holmes shot bringing a great save from Garner and the ball dropped to Danny Harrison who blazed the ball way into the away fans sat in the Railway End with an open goal at his mercy. Andy Warrington in the Millers goal only really had one shot to save and that was a stinging shot from substitute Ben Davies which Warrington smothered at the near post. Brogan and Holmes were both guilty of missing open nets before the Millers put the result out of doubt when a Marc Joseph cross was met by Derek Holmes who headed the ball past Garner and into the back of the net.
With two minutes to go, Stephen Brogan made way for Paul Hurst who was greeted by a standing ovation from the Millers faithful as he broke the record to become the Millers player with the most appearances for the club.
Tuesday was well and truly forgotten as the home fans cheered the players off the pitch and manager Mark Robins must be happy getting back to winning ways.
