Depending on your opinion, it was either two moments of magic or two goalkeeping errors that gave both teams at Millmoor a point today.
Millers fans filled the ground after plea's from the club for the people of the town to turn out in force on what was billed as 'United Rotherham Day' and to show the council that they do indeed need a new stadium. As Council Officials took to the field prior to kick-off, large 'United Rotherham' banners were held aloft from all four sides of Millmoor.
To the game and straight away the Millers responded to the roar from the crowd and Derek Holmes with a header and Pablo Mills could have put the home side in front before Tommy Doherty brought Chris O'Grady down and the referee awarded a free kick. Up stepped Stephen Brogan and from twenty-five yards out, with Frank Fielding caught napping, whipped the ball into the top right hand corner for the first goal. A Matt Bloomfield strike brought a good save from Andy Warrington in the Millers goal and Scott McGleish had a shot that went wide before Fielding in the visitors goal brought off a great save from a Chris O'Grady shot and also saved from Marc Joseph and Brogan before half time.
A half time presentation by the club for Vital's very own Zipadeedoodah to recognise the dedication he's shown in attending 600 consecutive games followed and then back to the game.
Wycombe came out the more lively team and looked determined to get something from the game and were rewarded when McGleish got his sixteenth goal of the season. He cut in from the left hand side and curled a high shot that dipped over the back-tracking Warrington and scraped in under the bar. This leveler seemed to knock the stuffing out of the Millers for a while and they had to defend a few corners although Fielding again pulled off a good save from Holmes and Ryan Taylor, who had some magic touches today, saw a chipped shot just go over the bar.
A point is a point and with MK Dons losing again it means the Millers have made up a little ground on them. But, I am sure Paul Lambert will be the happier of the two managers tonight.
