RUFC - Head-to-Head v Accrington

RUFC - Head-to-Head v Accrington

Accrington Stanley spent a total of 44 years outside the Football League following their resignation in 1962, but it's a further 11 years back that we find the last encounter between the 2 clubs in the Football League at Millmoor.
10th February 1951 to be exact, and Rotherham were on their way to the 3rd Division North title following a 6-2 demolition of Accrington in front of 14,504 fans at a delirious Millmoor.
Jack Shaw helped himself to an hat-trick, his 4th treble of the season in League and Cup, to take his goals total for the campaign to 34.
Jack Grainger (2) and Norman Noble completed the rout.

Rotherham had also scored 6 times in the previous meeting, but this time without reply.
Christmas came early for the Millers on this occasion on Christmas Eve 1949 as Stanley were walloped 6-0 in front of 9,448.
Ken Bower was the hat-trick hero in this game though, Jack Shaw netted just the once, with the others coming from Jack Grainger and Jimmy Rudd.
However this still wasn't Rotherham's highest ever victory against the Reds from Peel Park.
You have to go way back to 4th October 1930, and a 8-1 win to find that record.
7,070 saw Vic Wright netting 4 times, William Hick hitting an hat-trick and R. Gray get one goal.
This was to be Vic Wright's parting shot(s) for The Millers as he was transferred to reigning League Champions Sheffield Wednesday just 10 days later, after hitting 8 goals in 7 games that season.
