RUFC - Head-to-Head v Rochdale

Last time out was on December 8th 2007, and Rochdale won at Millmoor for the second League game on the trot, following a 22 game unbeaten run for the Millers at home against Dale stretching back to 1931.
The visitors only took 5 minutes to find the net when Adam Le Fondre found Gary Jones on the edge of the area, and Jones stroked it past Andy Warrington to open the scoring.

Two minutes later, provider turned scorer, when a cross from Tom Kennedy was nudged on to Le Fondre from Glenn Murray and he doubled Dale's lead.
The Millers had come into this game on the back of 7 straight League wins which had took us from 10th to 3rd in League two, but the Rotherham fans among the 3,808 crowd were rocked by this opening salvo from the visitors.
However, just 8 minutes later after a kick up the nether regions from boss Mark Robins and the Millers were level.

A Mark Hudson corner was hit goalwards on 14 minutes by Pablo Mills and centre-half, Ian Sharps was on hand at the far post to halve the deficit.

60 seconds later and the teams were level when Derek Holmes gained possession after a break from Stephen Brogan and Chris O'Grady, and the big Scotsmen drilled home with a sweet left foot shot.

First Millers scorer Sharps cleared a Le Fondre effort off the line 9 minutes before the break, but a pulsating first half was brought to an end with the scores standing at 2-2.

Unfortunately for the Millers, Rochdale caught them out at the start of the second half, and on 48 minutes Dale regained the lead as Glenn Murray headed a Kallum Higginbotham corner in off the underside of the bar to make it 3-2 to the men from Lancashire.

Substitute Marc Newsham missed the chance to put Rotherham level again as he struck a clear chance wide.

In stoppage time, Rochdale made the 3 points theirs, as Lee McEvilly made no mistake despite the ball trickling agonisingly over the line to end Rotherham's best run of the season. The Millers dropped down to 5th as a result of this defeat, while Rochdale climbed from 10th to 8th, just outside the play-off spots.

The Millers last win over Rochdale on home soil, came 5 meetings ago on Saturday 11th April 1992.
Rotherham were looking to get back to winning ways after a run of 6 League wins running had been halted the previous week by a 1-0 loss at Hereford.
The Millers sat in 4th place in the 4th division promotion race, while Rochdale were just 1 place and 2 points behind us.
Goals either side of the break from the 2 Shaun's, Goater and Goodwin gave the Millers the 3 points, leaving Rotherham just 1 point behind Mansfield and Blackpool in 2nd and 3rd automatic promotion spots and it gave us a 5 point advantage over Rochdale in 5th.
Manager, Phil Henson had this to say after the game.
'An excellent result was reward for a controlled, professional performance and a win which no-one would argue about on the overall balance of play.
It was one of those afternoons which began with the teams so close together and neither really being able to afford a defeat.
The all-round play was good and it was pleasing to see the size of the gate (5,086) and the way the crowd really got behind the team'
This was the start of a 5 game unbeaten run which took the Millers up to division 2 in 2nd automatic promotion place.
