RUFC - Head-to-Head v Macclesfield

Rotherham United travel to the Moss Rose ground, Macclesfield this Saturday, here's a look at the history of this fixture.

The Millers face Macclesfield Town at Moss Rose this Saturday in League action for the 4th time.
The previous 3 games have all seen the points shared, although Rotherham have won a League fixture there back in March 1991.
This was a 2-1 victory over Chester City who were 'loaning' the ground for 2 seasons inbetween their time at Sealand Road and the Deva Stadium.

The first League game against Macclesfield at Moss Rose came in a division 3 fixture on March 7th 1998.
Despite ending goalless, the game will always be remembered for the antics of Referee Tony Leake.
The game itself was in doubt after substantial rain had brought about a 11.00 pitch inspection that morning.
The pitch was ruled fit to play on, but further rain left water standing on the pitch and in all it resembled nothing more than a bog.
Several harsh decisions from Mr Leake culminated in a second yellow for Central defender Mark Monington, and the Millers ended the game with 10 men, but more importantly a very well earned point.
Millers boss Ronnie Moore was incensed by the decision to red card Monington, especially as Winger, Trevor Berry had been hacked down twice during the game by the same player, which in the eyes of Leake, didnt even warrant a yellow.

The other 2 meetings ended one all, firstly in August 1999, when a 4th minute opener from current Miller Richie Barker then plying his trade with Macclesield, was cancelled out by an 86th minute leveller from Leo Fortune-West.
Then last season on a Tuesday night in October, the spoils were shared again as this time Rotherham took the lead, thanks to a 13th minute opener from Derek Holmes, with Town's Martin Gritton equalising on 61 minutes.
