RUFC - Head-to-Head v Northampton

Rotherham United welcome Northampton Town tomorrow night for their first visit to Don Valley.

The Millers went to Sixfields in September and lost three-one. Ryan Gilligan opened the scoring on ten minutes for the home side and Courtney Herbert doubled the score a minute into the second half. An own goal from Ian Sharps made it three-nil although Adam Le Fondre did get a consolation from the penalty spot ten minutes from time.

The last season Rotherham beat the Cobblers was in 2000/1 - and they beat them three times, each time the score being one-nil.

The first time was at Sixfields with a goal from Stewart Talbot on the half-hour mark after Guy Branston had been sent off fifteen minutes earlier for his second bookable offence (and, I believe, that was the day the Millers had to pay Northampton for a new door!).

In the Second round of the FA Cup, at Millmoor, a Garry Hughes own goal after fourteen minutes put the Millers through to the next round and, in April 2001, a Mark Robins penalty gave the Millers all three points in the league.
