Russell was promoted to the National List of Assistant Referees in 1998 and after just one year, he progressed to the SG of Assistant Referees. In 2004 he reached the National List of Referees and three years later was the Fourth Official at the League Two Play Off Final.

This will be Russell's second time at Don Valley this season - the first being the 0-0 draw, in October, against Aldershot.

Last season, Russell was in the middle for two games involving the Millers. The first was at Grimsby, where we lost 3-0 and the second was at Barnet where it ended 2-0 to the home side.

This season, Russell has been in charge of thirty five games and has given out seventy four yellow and three red cards.
