'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Head-to-Head v Stevenage

Rotherham United entertain Stevenage Borough for the first ever time at Don Valley on Saturday afternoon.

The Boro were formed in 1976 starting life in the Chiltern Youth league on a roped-off pitch at the town's King George V playing fields. Shortly after this the club joined the Wallspan Southern Combination league.

Four years later the name Borough was added to their name and they moved to Broadhall Way joining the United Counties Football League, winning the United Counties League Division One championship, as well as the United Counties League Cup.

In 1984 they joined the Isthamian League in Division Two North and the following year they were promoted to Division One, being relegated two years later. They eventually got promotion and then promoted again to Premier Division and in 1994 were promoted to the Football Conference. In 1996, the club won the Conference but were denied access to the Football League due to insufficient ground facilities.

The next few seasons were a bit up and down for 'Boro reaching FA Trophy Finals and in the 2006/7 season they beat Kidderminster Harriers 3-2 becoming the first team to win a competitive final at the new Wembley Stadium.

In March 2010, with games to spare, Stevenage were eventually promoted to the League and at the end of the season Chairman, Phil Wallace announced that they would be dropping Borough from their name.

Stevenage are around half way in League Two going into this game.
