RUFC - Head-to-Head v York City

Rotherham United entertain York City in the first round proper of the FA Cup on Saturday at Don Valley.

York City are currently in the Blue Square Premier League and got to this stage of the FA Cup by beating Kidderminster in the last qualifying round. In the league they have eighteen points from seventeen, having only won one away from Bootham Crescent, which was at Tamworth.

The club were relegated from the Football League at the end of the 2003/4 season and that season the Millers beat the Minstermen in the League Cup two-one at Millmoor. Chris Swailes opened the scoring on two minutes with David Merris equalising just after the half hour mark. Chris Sedgwick got the Millers winner two minutes before half-time.

The last time the teams met in the league was the 1999/2000 season when the Millers won both games. The first game, at Millmoor was won by a Darren Garner goal on fifty-nine minutes while the return game at York was a two-one win when Leo Fortune-West gave the Millers the lead on seven minutes only for Barry Conlon to equalise on seventy-four minutes. When it looked like it was going to be a draw, the ball found the head of Guy Branston and went into the back of the net, sending the delighted Millers fans into raptures and big Guy into his goal-scoring walk!
