RUFC - Head-to-Head v Northampton

Rotherham United travel to the Sixfields Stadium on Friday to take on Northampton Town, who are currently languishing at the bottom of League Two.

When the teams met at Don Valley earlier in the season the game ended two-two, with all four goals being scored in the opening twenty-five minutes. Ryan Taylor put the Millers in front in the first four minutes and Marcus Marshall doubled the league fifteen minutes later. The Cobblers hit back in the twenty-third and twenty-fourth minutes with goals from Abdul Osman and Andy Holt.

The last time the two met at Sixfields it ended in a three-one win for the home team. Ryan Gilligan scored on ten minutes to give the Cobblers the lead at half-time and Courtney Herbert scored a minute into the second half to double the score. An own goal from Ian Sharps gave the home side three goals with Adam Le Fondre scoring from the penalty spot on seventy-nine minutes to give the visitors a consolation goal.

It's almost eleven years since the Millers won on the road at Sixfields in October 2000. Guy Branston was sent off on fifteen minutes but this didn't stop the Millers and fifteen minutes later Stewart Talbot got the only goal of the game. Referee G Laws showed a number of yellow cards that day, five for the Millers (Mike Pollitt, Branston, Will Varty, Darren Garner and Leo Fortune-West) and three for the Cobblers (John Frain, David Savage and Steve Howard).
