RUFC - Head-to-Head v Oxford

RUFC - Head-to-Head v Oxford
Rotherham United welcome Oxford United for the first game of the new season at Don Valley Stadium on Saturday.

The last time the U's were at DVS was in November last season when the Millers won 2-1. All goals were scored in the first half with Adam Le Fondre scoring both goals for the Millers and Simon Clist getting the consolation in injury time.

The return game at the Kassam Stadium was a reverse score of the earlier game. Sam Heslop put the home side one up on eighteen minutes but twenty minutes later Nicky Law equalised. New loan signing, Callum Kennedy saw his marching orders just after the hour mark for tugging at Steve MacLean as he went past him in the penalty area and MacLean picked himself up and scored the resulting penalty.

In the 2000/1 season, the two League games between these two sides saw eleven goals. The first game was at Millmoor in October 2000 in front of 3,983 fans. The game ended three-one to the Millers, all goals coming in the final fifteen minutes. Paul Warne put the Millers one-up on seventy-six minutes and six minutes later Kevin Watson made it two-nil. Derek Lilley pulled one back for the visitors on eighty-four minutes but, in the final minute of the game, Warne made sure and scored his second and the Millers third of the game.

The game at the Manor Ground was a win for Oxford who went into an early lead in the fifth minute when Rob Quinn scored. Mark Robins equalised on twenty-four minutes but Manny Omoyinmi put the U's back in front three minutes later. Omoyinmi was on hand to score a third for the home side fifteen minutes into the second half but Guy Branston made with three-two on the hour mark. A certain Andy Scott regained the two goal lead for the U's seven minutes later with Alan Lee making it an interesting end to the game when he scored in the last ten minutes to make it four-three.
