RUFC - Head-to-Head v Plymouth
Rotherham United travel to Home Park on Saturday to take on Plymouth Argyle for the first time since 2005, when both sides were in the Championship.
Hard times have hit both clubs since then with both going into administration and having points deducted - which, in all fairness, is probably why we find ourselves playing the Pilgrims this season, after they had managed to get themselves into twelfth place in League One before having ten points taken off them that saw them plummet to the bottom of the league and never really recover.
The last game the two were involved in at Home Park in February 2005 ended in a one-one draw. Andy Monkhouse had put the visitors in the lead on twenty-six minutes only for a dubious awarded penalty to be given on fifty minutes which Paul Wotton equalised from. The game at Millmoor between the two had been an Argyle victory with a goal from Matthias Doumbe fifteen minutes from time enough to get all three points.
In the 199/2000 season, the sides met in the Football League Division Three and both games ended one-one. At Home Park, in September Mike Heathcote scored on fifteen minutes for Argyle but four minutes into the second half, Trevor Berry equalised for the Millers. At Millmoor Chris Hargreaves got a twenty-third minute goal for the Pilgrims with Paul Warne getting the equaliser on seventy-six minutes. Teams that day
Subs not used - Pettinger, Artell, Hudson, Glover
Subs not used - Veysey, Rowbotham, Paterson, Barlow, Gritton
Of the sixty-four meetings in the League, (and they have never met in a Cup competition), between the two sides, Plymouth have won twenty-seven, Rotherham twenty-one and there have been sixteen draws.
The last time the Millers beat Plymouth at Home Park was in January 1970 - the game ending three-nil with Neil Hague getting two goals and David Lill the other.
