RUFC - Head-to-Head v Stanley

RUFC - Head-to-Head v Stanley
Rotherham United make the short journey to the Crown Ground, Accrington to take on Stanley for the first time this season.

The teams have met fifty times in the league in the past, the Millers winning twenty-six of those games and Stanley sixteen with eight draws.

Last season the Millers won both games. Andy Parkinson put Stanley one up at the Crown Ground on nine minutes but debutant Kevin Long saw red for pulling Adam Le Fondre back in the penalty area and Alfie put away the resulting penalty. Four minutes into the second half Jimmy Ryan put ten-man Stanley back in the lead but a fine header from on-loan defender, Exodus Geohaghon in the last ten minutes of the game gave the Millers the equaliser. In time added on skipper, Ryan Cresswell got the winner for the Millers, showing his delight by running to celebrate with the travelling fans.

The game at Don Valley was also a win for Rotherham when goals from Omar Daley and Adam Le Fondre in the second half was enough to send Stanley back pointless.

The last time Stanley won at home was March last year when Michael Symes opened the scoring on eighteen minutes for Accrington only for Josh Walker to get a leveller ten minutes into the second half. The winner was on seventy-nine minutes from Jimmy Ryan.

The biggest score between the two was an eight-one Rotherham win at Millmoor way back in 1930 when Wright (4), Grey and Hick (3) were the Millers scorers. The Millers have twice put six past Stanley - firstly on Christmas Eve 1949 at Millmoor (the score being 6-0) and then the season after, again at Millmoor (the score was 6-2).
