RUFC - Head-to-Head v Macclesfield

RUFC - Head-to-Head v Macclesfield
The first time the sides met in the League at Moss Rose was in March 1998 which ended in a stalemate and Mark Monington for the Millers getting a red card on sixty-three minutes. The game will probably be remembered because of Referee that day, Tony Leake. With it having rained for what seemed like forever, a pitch inspection was called for and, at 11 am, Mr Leake said the pitch was playable. By kick-off time, and rain still falling, as the players came out of the tunnel what they lined up on looked more like a muddy dirt track than a football field. But the game went ahead and Mr Leake gave out some very peculiar decisions for both sides, including a second yellow for Monington, which, then Manager, Ronnie Moore, was incensed about, having had winger Trevor Berry hacked down twice without even a yellow being shown. But the Millers came away with a point, which, on the day was well deserved.
