'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Ref Watch v The Spireites

Paul Tierney from Lancashire.

Paul was in charge of the Millers first ever League game at the New York Stadium when they beat Burton Albion three-nil. After five minutes he gave the Millers a penalty after Zander Diamond had fouled Daniel Nardiello inside the box with the striker picking himself up, dusting himself down and opening his scoring from the resulting spot kick. Kayodi Odejayi made it two six minutes later with Ben Pringle scoring a third fifteen minutes from time. Paul gave the Brewers' Lee Bell his marching orders just after the hour mark after two quick yellow cards.

This is Paul's fourth season as a Football League Referee and last season he was in charge of two games involving the Millers - the first being a two-one win at Crewe with the Millers goals coming from Adam Le Fondre and Ben Pringle and a few weeks later he was in the middle for our game at Vale Park when two first half goals from Marc Richards was enough to give the home side all three points.

The first time he was in the middle for a Millers game was at Whaddon Road in September 2009. Adam Le Fondre put the Millers in front on the stroke of half-time only for Julian Alsop to equalise five minutes from the end of the game.
