RUFC - Head-to-Head v Preston

RUFC - Head-to-Head v Preston
Rotherham United and Preston have met fifty times in the past - forty-six times in the League and twice in the League Cup.

The first time the pair met at Deepdale was in the League Cup in November 1961 where it ended goalless with the replay at Millmoor being a three-nil win to the Millers with Ian Butler, Ken Houghton and Barry Webster getting the goals.

The first time Rotherham beat the Lilywhites at Deepdale was in September 1984 when they were both in the Old Division Three. John Dungworth scored first for the visitors with Tony Simmons then Mike Trusson giving the Millers a three-nil win.

The last time the Millers won at Preston was on Boxing Day 2002 when second half goals from Mark Robins and Richie Barker gave the Millers a two-nil win.

The game at Deepdale earlier this season was a six goal thriller. After Lee Frecklington had opened the scoring early on an own goal from Tom Clarke gave the Millers an eleven minute two-goal lead. On the thirty-seventh minute Craig Davies halved the deficit with Paul Gallagher and Joe Garner adding two goals in the second half to make it three-two. But in the last minute of the game an Adam Collin free-kick found Alex Revell who in turn headed down to Nicky Adams. Adams shot was blocked but the ball fell to Frecklington whose rocket shot took a deflection or two and ended up in the back of the net sending the nine hundred plus visiting fans wild!
