RUFC - Ref Watch v Bradford City

RUFC - Ref Watch v Bradford City
ROBERT LEWIS from Shropshire

Rob actually worked his way up to be a League referee some years ago and officiated at nearly fifty games before a lengthy injury cost him his place on the National List. After running the line in the Premiership and refereeing in the Conference he was added again to the list for the start of the 2010/11 season.

His first time in charge of a Millers game was at Don Valley in November 2010 when Northampton were the visitors. Ryan Taylor and Marcus Marshall put the Milers two up in nineteen minutes but the Cobblers scored two goals in two minutes to make it two-two five minutes later. Abdul Osman and Andy Holt got the visitors goals. That day Rob showed yellow cards to Jamie Annerson, Kevin Ellison and Mark Bradley of the Millers and Northampton`s Marcus Hall and Dean Beckworth.

Rob was in charge of two Millers games the following season. Firstly our game at Sixfields when Gareth Evans put Rotherham in front on just two minutes then a bizarre own goal from Conrad Logan on twenty-four minutes gave the Cobblers a share of the points. He was then in charge of our game with Bristol Rovers in February when a goal in the final minute of the game gave Rovers the three points.

Rob came to the New York Stadium to take charge of our game against Wycombe Wanderers in November 2012. Daniel Nardiello scored in the opening minute only for Dave Winfield to equalise just before the half-hour mark. Six minutes later Mark Bradley put the Millers back in front but two goals in the second half from Matt McClure sent Wycombe home with all three points.

The last time Rob was in charge of the Millers was in December 2013 in League One at Vale Park when Louis Dodds put the hosts in front on eight minutes with Kieran Agard seeing a penalty saved by Vale's Sam Johnson after James Tavernier was bundled over in the box. On fifty-four minutes the Millers went down to ten when Claude Davies kicked out at former Miller Tom Pope and Pope made it worse for his former team when his flick on to Gavin Tomlin saw the Vale striker make it two-nil.

Rob isn`t unknown throughout the football world for controversy as he is the assistant who didn't see Roy Carroll retrieve the ball from a good yard over the line after a shot from Spurs' Pedro Mendes had been fumbled by the Manchester United 'keeper. He was also reported by Bradford City a couple of years ago when he is alleged to have verbally abused a player.

Th is will be the second time Rob has been in the middle for a Millers game this season, the first being the first game when the Millers took on Fleetwood at the Highbury Stadium. Conor McAleny scored for the hosts on sixteen minutes and got a second fifty minutes later to give Fleetwood all three points. Will Vaulks was booked for the Millers that day alongside Fleetwood's Cian Bolger and Kyle Dempsey.

So far this season Rob has shown twenty-five yellow and one red card in the eight games he's officiated in.

Running the line will be . . . .
Richard Wild from Lancashire
and
Simon Clayton from County Durham

The Fourth Official will be
David Webb from County Durham
